To me, grey’s anatomy is The feminist TV show. Shonda Rimes is a genius and her show had her speeches have helped me keep going during tough times. I tough that sharing some of my favorite lines could help someone in a helpless moment. Sometimes wether is due to 10 hours of dance or schoolwork we all feel like we could use some motivation right?!
“There comes a point where it all becomes too much. When we get too tired to fight anymore. So we give up. And that’s when the real work begins. To find hope where there seems to be absolutely none at all.”
“In group settings, men are 75% more likely to speak up than women, and when a woman does speak up, it’s statistically probable her male counterparts will either interrupt her or speak over her. It’s not because they’re rude, it’s science. The female voice is scientifically proven to be more difficult for a male brain to register. What does this mean? It means, in this world where men are bigger, stronger, faster… if you’re not ready to fight, the silence will kill you.”
As a feminist this must be one of my favorite. There are so many things that I can’t do anything about but make sure my voice is hear is something I have the control over. I think that we should fight tooth and nails to allow everyone to be listened equally in every situation.
“There’s this person inside my head. She’s brilliant, capable. She’s me, only much better. And I am afraid I’ll never become that person”
We all have that person. I think it’s simply our fearless self. Fear is wired and irrational, the only thing we should fear is dead and most things we fear are not going to end our life. I love when that person takes possession of my life. I make bad choices and create amazing memories.
“Don’t ever date a man (or woman) who can’t handle your power”
“That’s how you stay alive. When it hurt so much you can’t breathe, that’s how you survive. By remembering that, one day, somehow, impossibly, you won’t feel this way. It won’t hurt tis much.”
Sometimes you just need to really think about each breath and each step and they took a huge amount of effort. But at worst you will fall asleep or pass out. Our bodies are only conditioned but the limits we set for ourselves.
“Have some fire. Be unstoppable. Be a force of nature. Be better than anyone here and don’t give a damn what anyone thinks. You are your own ”
“If you want crappy things to stop happening to you, stop accepting crap and demand something more.”
“Each of you comes here today hopeful. Wanting in on the game. A month ago you were in med school being taught by doctors. Today, you are the doctors. The seven years you spend here as a surgical residents will be the best and worst of your life. You will be pushed to the breaking point. Look around you. Say hello to your competition. Eight of you will switch to an easier specialty. Five of you will crack under the pressure and two of you will be asked to leave. This is your starting line. This is your arena. How well you play? That’s up to you.
